WHY LAND WAS ORGANIZED

The Landowners Association of North Dakota (LAND) was organized in the spring of 1989 by 50 landowners and interested individuals. It was abundantly clear that something had to be done to stop excessive regulation and erosion of private property rights. It was clear that land was being devalued; that producers' efficiency were being affected, and that rights guaranteed under our Constitution were being infringed upon.

Many individuals had tried to get the State Legislature and Congress to put "reasonableness” and “common sense” into administering new regulation - but to no avail. It was decided to organize to provide landowners a means of entering and influencing the educational and political arenas where attacks on freedoms were occurring.

The LAND masthead indicates that to which we are “dedicated.” We, too, are a part of the environmental movement that wants clean air, abundant wildlife and conservation of our natural resources. But we recognize that we must also protect our human resource! We must be secure in the ownership of private property as guaranteed by the Constitution! We must maintain a free enterprise economy if we are to remain free of stifling and incentive-robbing controls! LAND wants to protect privately owned property and will work diligently toward that end!
